The coronavirus pandemic has transformed all areas, including the food sector. Although nearly 40% of companies within this area were able to maintain 100% of their activity and only 8% had to stop, there have been losses of around 4.3 billion euros . This is highlighted by the Food Trends report , promoted by the agencies Trescom and Food For Thought , which points out the main changes that have occurred in the population's eating behavior as a result of the health situation. This compilation has been possible thanks to the analysis of a hundred studies and published information, as well as twenty personal interviews with different actors in the sector. Faced with this panorama, both entrepreneurs and consumers have reinvented themselves. An increase in the consumption of vegetables and fruits, the Phone Number List increase in purchases through e-commerce or support for local businesses are some of those booming dynamics and trends that have been occurring since March 2020. To promote it and highlight the most important results that have been obtained, both organized a virtual meeting on March 3, moderated by Isabel Lozano , CEO of Trescom, and Manuel Bruscas , co-founder of Food For Thought. Participating in this event were Eugenia Cusi , president of PIMEM Restauración Mallorca , Bernat Añaños , co-founder of Heura , and Diego Sebastián de Erice , director of online commerce at DIA . Below we summarize some of the main conclusions: 1. Greater concern about the origin of food Time at home has led to greater reflection about the origin of food and people have been encouraged to try to eat healthier . Food culture had already been pointing out movements such as “realfooding” , for example, but during this year the growth of this type of diet has skyrocketed. The study has shown that healthy cooking has grown by 56% during the pandemic. Within this conception of food as a source of health, we find that in the last year the consumption of vegetables has increased by 40% compared to the last year and that 847 million kilos of fruits and vegetables have been consumed. On the contrary, meat consumption fell by 12% in 2020 compared to 2019 and 35% of the Spanish population reduced the demand for red meat.
